Some Golf Tips For You

by Lee MacRae

Read along as we offer up some great tips to improve your game of golf.

Throughout the entire swing you should let your body swing your arms, much like swinging a heavy ball at the end of a chain. If you keep your elbows together and in front of your center (the upper part of your body) in the hitting area centrifugal force will create club head speed. The faster you can move the body in the forward swing without sacrificing a smooth rhythmic tempo the more club head speed you will develop. The left arm will rotate and the right arm will extend and cross over the left, just as a home run hitter's arms react. It is imperative that you keep the body moving to the finish. Otherwise the arms and hands will deliver prematurely.

Often the difference between a strong, powerful swing and a misguided hack is the tendency to hit, rather than stroke, the ball. The difference can be seen when examining a short putt, when it is easy to stroke the ball. Hitting is not an option for a short putt, which makes it the easiest shot in golf. No desire to hit the ball allows a stroking, swinging motion. Perfect this technique for short-distance shots and you will find increasing accuracy and distance with your long shots as well.

Once you hit a shot you must stop and read what you just did and you must read it correctly. You must be in a balanced finish to read it properly, so you can check your alignment in case the shot is off line. As you stand in a perfectly balanced finish and watch your ball, ask yourself: how does my balance feel, how was the brush, how was the path, was the clubface in the correct position, and did I hit it in the center of the clubface? Then, either focus more on what is missing, or play it and go fix it after the round. You will only be able to accomplish 8 to 10 perfect shots per round, so be mentally prepared!

Work on these tips and make sure you tee off with a positive mindset. The more you practice and implement what you learn, the more confidence you will gain in your ability to hit it straight and long. And watch your scores begin to plummet!

The equipment, services, and accessories that you use while playing golf will have a definite impact on your game! Having gear and equipment that is subpar will cause your golf game to struggle. In addition, if you continue playing golf with equipment that is not of proper standard, you will only perform as best as your worst piece of equipment!

golf fitness

How does that help with golf equipment you ask? Very simply, the players are promoting more equipment to make the game easier for seniors. This forces the manufacturers to step up their game and make some high quality gear they can use to score low that works just as well if not better with their aging bodies. Because of this the demand for this type of equipment is huge.

Which Golf Clubs Are Best For You?

By: Lee MacRae

With such a large variety of golf clubs on the market today, it is no wonder that many newcomers to the game have a hard time when it comes to choosing new clubs.

Follow along as we discuss each type and what may be best for you.

To begin with, it should be noted that ordinary, everyday golf clubs will work for virtually anybody standing between 5 feet and six feet tall. And that holds equally for males and females. If you are outside those parameters, then you may need to look at custom fitted clubs.

Cast or forged iron clubs. Which?

The answer normally is "cast iron".

What makes cast iron the right choice for most? Because most standard cast iron golf clubs have a larger "sweet spot". That refers to the area right smack dab in the middel of the club face where you are supposed to hit the ball. The larger the "sweet spot" on a club face, the more area you have to strike the ball well. It makes it a little easier to hit the "bulls eye" every time on your shots. It is for that main reason the beginners are steered towards cast iron clubs. Until their swing plane is more developed, they will have an easier time striking the ball on a consistant basis with the cast iron club. That is why you see a lot of oversized club heads on the market today. They allow average duffers the opportunity of striking the ball well and getting great drives more often.

Forged iron clubs are generally the opposite. Harder to hit with because of a smaller sweet spot on the club face.

So why are forged clubs even sold?

For a very simple reason. Cast iron is a softer metal that offers a better "feel" on a shot. The more experienced player has a much more defined and repeatable swing, allowing them to hit the smaller sweet spot with much more consistancy. They don't need that larger "margin of error" the beginner needs. And now, the better "feel" allows him or her the added advantage of being able to manoevre and/or "shape" each shot to the circumstances as needed.

The next item to consider is the material for the shaft. Will it be composite or steel?

The important thing to look at here is your club head velocity. Any typical Sunday golfer will generate a club speed of 80 to 94 mph. With speeds registering lower than that, you ought to think of using a composite style of shaft on your clubs . The result of lower swing speed is less yardage on each shot. You want to find some way to offset your lower swing speed. And that is where the composite golf club shaft enters the picture. It gives you a lot more distance than you would get with your normal swing and a steel shaft.

By contrast, those with good distances on their shots, will fare much better by using a steel shaft that will give them some touch and control on their shots.

You can find out your own swing speed by looking for a golf store that has a velocity speed gun or a radar gun package. It won't cost you much and you will know very quickly which type of shaft is best for you. You can even find some battery operated doppler radar devices on the market that you can set up and use to determine your club velocity by yourself.

With simply these few starting hints, it is ordinarily best if you rent a few different sets of clubs as you play and take note of how each club helps or impedes your game. You are searching to learn your personal strengths as well as weaknesses. Use as many clubs as you can beg, borrow, steal or rent. The more you use, the more you will learn about your own game.

Work on these tips and make sure you tee off with a positive mindset. The more you practice and implement what you learn, the more confidence you will gain in your ability to hit it straight and long. And watch your scores begin to plummet!

It's considered the bigger the head of the driver the more chance a player has of connecting with the ball in what is known as the sweet zone area. Take a look at the pro golf circuit today and it seems more and more professionals have a club in their bag with a larger head. They look a little ungainly in use but their effectiveness in gaining more leverage in power at the connection point seems unquestioned.
